Savannah’s Baptism

October 30th, 2005

Today was Savannah’s baptism. We had a small gathering of family and friends to celebrate the ceremony. Ryan & Kristy came in from Michigan for the weekend (which was extra special because Ryan is Savannah’s Godfather). Heather and I chose Andrea & Christina to be Savannah’s Godmothers. Savannah did great during the ceremony. She spent the whole time staring at the Pastor and trying to grab his notebook and the candle. She was happy until it was picture time… then she was done being happy.

A much needed get away weekend

October 23rd, 2005

This past weekend Heather, Savannah, and myself took off early and headed out to Eastern Michigan to visit Ryan & Kristy. Uncle Ryan & Aunt Kristy have yet to meet Savannah in person. They’ve only seen pictures and video of her prior to this weekend. Both the Edward’s and Horton’s have been pretty busy throughout the summer so we haven’t had a chance to let them get to know Savannah. We felt we should get out there before Savannah’s baptism next weekend, and there’s good cause for this trip. Heather and I have asked Ryan to be Savannah’s God father. Ryan & Kristy will be making the trip to Chicago next weekend for the ceremony (Heather and I really appreciate you guys driving the 7 hours).

Anyway.. This weekend we took Savannah to an apple orchard to do some apple picking. More so for us to get some fresh apples for eating and pies, but also to do the suburban yuppie thing of going to the orchard with our kid in an SUV..haha. Savannah was all eyes as we walked through the orchard. Reaching out to touch the apples and leaves on the tree with so much wonder in her eyes.

The trip out there and back were pretty uneventful. Savannah watched a couple movies in the car, both mommy and baby took a few naps here and there. Otis was my trusty co-pilot in the front seat keeping an eye out for speed traps (in between naps). We made good time both ways, considering we had to make a few extra pit stops for dirty diapers and fill ups.

Aparantly the dog is hysterical

This was too funny, so I had to share it. Tonight Heather and I were about to have dinner, and of course, Savannah felt it was time to be a little fussy. So, being the great husband that I am, I told Heather that I would take Savannah and keep her occupied so Heather could eat a meal with two hands. Savannah and I were in the living room and I had her standing on the floor leaning up against the love seat. Otis came into the room with his tugs rope and began whipping his head around with the rope (as usual). Savannah turned her head to see what was going on and just began to laugh uncontrollably. The strange thing is, she’s never really laughed before. Every once in a while we’d get a small chuckle out of her, but nothing quite as big as this.

I yelled into the kitchen to see if Heather heard what was going on out by us, and then she began to laugh as well. I told her to run and get the video camera as we had to get her first outburst on tape. Meanwhile, Savannah’s continuing to laugh her butt off at the dog.

Heather grabbed the camera and began taping and we got a few more minutes of Savannah laughing at the dog. I encoded it and uploaded it to the site and you can download/watch it here
